Preparing for the big day

The Edgewood Yacht Club’s grand opening is slated for Saturday, May 19, when their new building opens for the 2018 boating season. The celebration begins with a ribbon cutting at 9:45 a.m., followed by a breakfast, skipper meeting, parade of sail from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and a dinner at 6:00 p.m. Brown University shared in the cost of rebuilding of the yacht club that was lost to fire in January 2011. The Brown Sailing team is based at the club. In ceremonies last Saturday, those parts of the clubhouse used by Brown were dedicated to Ted Turner, the founder of CNN, who was on hand to talk along with Brown President Christina Paxson. Pictured preparing for this Saturday’s celebration is the club’s event planner and chef Ingrid Lima. (Cranston Herald photos)
