Lancia honors bombing victims

Retired Navy Chaplain Lt. Cmdr. Robert Lancia (Rep., Dist. 15) gave the invocation during the 35th Anniversary Memorial Service in Portsmouth commemorating the victims of the 1983 bombings in Beirut, Lebanon. It was the 35th anniversary of the bombings that killed 241 U.S. servicemen, including nine from Rhode Island. Those from Newport County were Pfc. Thomas A. Julian of Portsmouth; Lance Cpl. James F. Silvia of Middletown; Lance Cpl. Edward Soares Jr. of Tiverton; and Cpl. Stephen E. Spencer of Portsmouth. The memorial service was held on Oct. 23 at the Portsmouth Historical Society.
