As of last week, Cranston has a new centenarian on the books.
Helen Peck celebrated her 100th birthday while surrounded by family at Cedar Crest Nursing Home in Cranston on Saturday afternoon. She has been a staple in the Cranston community with years of service and volunteerism and has been active at the Cranston Enrichment Center.
She was married to Leo Peck, who passed away Nov. 30, 1988. They had a son, Arthur, who had four daughters. Loriann, his oldest, died in a tragic auto accident in 1998. Twins Yvette and Yvonne came next, and then the youngest, Natalee.
Helen and Leo also had a daughter, Barbara, who was married to Rob Onken. Rob passed away from cancer on Sept. 17, 1999.
Helen has always enjoyed going to McShawn’s Pub with Barbara and having her favorite cocktail, the “14,” more commonly known as a 7 and 7. She has also enjoyed dressing up on holidays and attending programs with her friends at the Cranston Enrichment Center.
