The East Greenwich Animal Protection League held a public event to celebrate the Super Bowl and the appearance of one of its former pups who was adopted and featured in this year’s Puppy Bowl – the annual Animal Planet feature that showcases shelter pups from all around the country (and further) prior to the Super Bowl. Although the Patriots didn’t give fans a reason to smile by the end of the night, over 200 people – including Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian and Cranston Mayor Allan Fung – showed up earlier in the day to cheer on the local shelter pups at the Protection League’s new facility at 44 Worthington Road in Cranston. “It was so much fun. I had a smile on my face the whole day,” said Karen Kalunian, who volunteers in various roles for the Protection League. “I wish we could do something like that every day all the time. People really enjoy the camaraderie of animals and people being together. It just brings people happiness.”
