Day of honor

Posted

Family members of Olindo Luigi Izzo, along with local and state officials, gathered recently for a presentation of medals the late World War II veteran earned during his service to the nation. Izzo – who passed away in 1985 and would have turned 99 this year – saved another soldier’s life and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge, and received the Purple Heart. He also received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and other medals. During the recent gathering, Izzo’s daughter, AmyBeth Parravano, was presented with a citation from the city of Cranston by Mayor Allan Fung. Pictured, from left, are Rhode Island Director of Veterans Affairs Kasim Yarn, Fung, Parravano and her husband, Tony – who is a veteran of the Korean War – and U.S. Sen. Jack Reed. In back of Parravano are her sons, Paul and Peter. (Submitted photo)
