On March 19, the Cranston Historical Society hosted a program led by Jeffrey Herman, who specializes in silver restoration and conservation.
For many years, Herman worked as a silver designer, sample maker and technical illustrator at Gorham Silver in Providence. He has a BFA in silversmithing and jewelry making. He also worked at Piltz Ltd.
He is the founder of the Society of American Silversmiths, a Rhode Island-based organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of silversmithing in the U.S. He has been in business as a silver conservator and preservationist since 1984, earning a national reputation. Additional information is available at hermansilver.com.
Some members of the audience brought in their own personal silver items for Herman to clean.
