Springing into Earth Day

Volunteers got a taste of spring on Sunday as they worked to clean up the Meschanticut State Park in Cranston for the 3rd Annual Clean-up hosted by Ward 5 Cranston City Councilman, Chris Paplauskas.

More than 100 volunteers of all ages attended the event this past Sunday, April 22 (Earth Day).

“This was the 3rd annual Meschanticut Lake park cleanup,” said Councilman Paplauskas. “I couldn't be prouder to see more than 100 volunteers take the time to spend earth day cleaning up one of Cranston's greatest parks.”

Among the volunteers were members of the Cranston High School West lacrosse team, Girl Scout Troop 121, Boy Scouts Troop 66, the Cranston Republican city committee, and members of the Cranston Lacrosse Club.

Neighbors and friends joined in to clean the area, which yielded a lot of discarded plastic, fishing line, plastic bags and a field hockey net.

“It was a great team effort by all involved on earth day and we truly are making Cranston better together. We also had the chance to clean up the area around Cranston West parking lot. I’m so proud of our community,” Paplauskas said after the cleanup.
