That's Entertainment: Twenty years ago

Warwick Musical Theatre opens its 37th season with Chicago, the band, not the musical. A hot new comedian by the name of Jerry Seinfeld made his Warwick debut, followed by the annual twin bill of The Tops and The Temptations. Later in the month, we were treated to performances by comedian Steven Wright and country singers Willie Nelson and Kathy Mattea. July also saw Randy Travis, Rita Rudner and Louie Anderson and the Judds grace the revolving stage.
Healey’s Seafood on West Shore Road was selling three pounds of quahogs for a buck. The Pastry Box on Warwick Ave. had pizza strips, three for a buck. J. Wales on Post Road had twin lobsters for $14.95, while the Beachcomber on Oakland Beach Ave. had lobster dinners for $8.95.
Anne Brady and Florencia Lozano starred in Brown Summer Theatre’s “Eastern Standard,” a touching look at relationships. Their second offering was the mystery “Postmortem,” written by Ken Ludwig and directed by Don B. Wilmeth.
Rhode Island Shakespeare Theatre gave us a “Romeo and Juliet” that I said “would make the Bard proud.” It starred Andrew McCarthy and Dawn Emsellen and was directed by Bob Colonna.
At the movies, Leslie Nielson was back with "Naked Gun 2½." Harrison Ford starred in a two-Kleenex "Regarding Henry," about a man who must overcome a major handicap. "Boyz in the Hood" was a popular teen movie, with some good messages about rising above the ghetto environment. "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" brought Arnold Schwarzenegger back to the screen. Will we see him again?
Theatre-by-the-Sea was under the management of ForeQuest Entertainment. They gave us a “glitzy, energetic” version of "Grease."
Trinity gave us a double dose of Christopher Durang with two hilarious, offbeat comedies.
Fred Sullivan, Jr. starred in “The Actor’s Nightmare” about going on stage and forgetting your lines. Ed Shea teamed up with Sullivan as an actor who goes on at the last minute, completely unprepared.
Janice Duclos was hilarious in “Sister Ignatius Explains it All to You”, which wasn’t too kind to the Catholic Church.
