It was an overcast day on Saturday, Sept. 29, when Valerie Bruzzi-Krsulic and her students from Cranston High School West arrived in Providence for the 13th annual Street Painting Festival. With colored pastels in hand, and with an idea of what they would be drawing in mind, the students began sketching in the 8’ x 8’ square assigned to them. The image depicted the students drawing a picture about recycling, working in the school’s current theme of respect.
The West art students ultimately won first place in the environmental division at the festival. The street painting idea will be developed into a bird’s eye-view floor cloth painting, which will be displayed in the office at Cranston West.
