Laura Johnson, Ph.D., a Curator at the Eustis Estate in Milton, Mass., which is one of the Historic New England properties, provided a presentation on “Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from the Collection of Historic New England.” It included a PowerPoint presentation of many jewelry pieces in their house museum’s collections.
“Jeweled gifts such as watches, rings, bracelets, and cuff links mark major life transitions,” Johnson said. “These mementos helped men and women to tell stories about themselves and their families, as gifts become treasured memories. Through these heirlooms, this talk will explore how New Englanders, from the Eighteenth Century to the present day, marked their important moments and memories of love and life.”
Pianist Andrew Kaplan of West Warwick will greet guests playing musical selections on the mansions’ 1880's Steinway Concerta D grand piano. In the grand ballroom, guests could have a cup of tea and sample from a three-tier serving tray filled with fresh trimmed tea-sandwiches and an assortment of pastries & scones.
