The Cranston/East Greenwich Co-op girls’ hockey squad picked up its second win of the season on Saturday evening at Cranston Ice Rink, as the Thunderbirds doubled up winless Warwick Co-op, 6-3.
Cranston raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first period behind a pair of goals from Jena Villeneuve and one from Abbi Sampson.
Brittney Bidwell added another early in the second period, and Villeneuve would complete her hat trick eight minutes later to increase the lead to 5-0.
Warwick’s Rebecca Yaseen got the Lady Titans on the board before the period was up, but Cranston still held a four-goal lead after two periods.
The Lady Titans picked up their play in the third period, getting goals from Nicole Procaccini and Elise Saccoccia to trim the Cranston lead to two.
Sampson would ice the game with less than three minutes left, however, giving Cranston its second victory over Warwick in as many weeks.
Villeneuve finished the night with three goals and one assist, while Sampson contributed two goals and two assists and Bidwell chipped in a goal and two assists. Hannah Slaiby picked up the victory in net, stopping 15 of Warwick’s 18 shots on goal.
Cranston (2-12) will be in action twice this weekend. It will host Smithfield/Coventry at Cranston Ice Rink at 8 p.m. on Friday, before traveling to Smithfield to take on the Sentinels again on Saturday at 7 p.m.
