Vivaldi's: Much more than pizza

There are more than a half dozen pizza places in the Edgewood/Pawtuxet area, and we’ve tried them all, always ending back at Vivaldi’s Pizza at 1826 Broad St.

We have enjoyed their Italian thin-crusted pizza for over 30 years, usually ordering our favorite, The Vivaldi’s Special, topped with generous portions of pepperoni, sausage, pepper, onions, black olives and mushrooms.

Vivaldi’s is no cookie-cutter operation. The dough is prepared fresh and the ingredients are scattered over every inch. There’s no set pattern, making each pizza its own individual creation.

On Friday’s we used to drive to our fish and chips place, until one day a neighbor suggested we try Vivaldi’s. We had noticed the fish and chips sign but never thought of ordering seafood at a pizzeria.

What a pleasant surprise. The fish was fresh, perfectly cooked and huge. Crispy cooked French fries, cole slaw and tartar sauce accompanied the order. At $10.95, it is the best fish and chips and the best bargain in the state.

Recently, another neighbor asked if we had ever tried their gyros.

Gyros in a pizza place? Why not! Greeks make the best Greek food, and many say they also make the best pizza. Generous portions of the spicy meat, lettuce and tomato and a delicious tzatziki sauce fill the pita bread, making for a delicious, filling meal for only $8.95.

Last week, three family members popped in at dinnertime and we couldn’t agree on where or what to eat. After deciding on take-out, there was only one place that could meet our needs.

We ordered two gyros (Joyce and I), an Italian grinder, chicken parmigiana and ziti (hold the cheese) and eggplant parmagiana and ziti (hold the cheese). My kids are fussy eaters. The pasta dishes are huge and include a salad and bread for $9.95.

Many restaurants with large menus may have big selections but lack in quality. Not Vivaldi’s, where their sauce makes everything exceptional.

Calzones, stuffed breads, wraps, chicken wings, salads and a delicious tiramisu for only $3.95 are also on the menu.

Vivaldi’s is mostly a take-out and delivery establishment, but there are booths if you wish to eat in and enjoy the constant traffic at what has become a must stop for hungry Cranston/Warwick customers.

They are open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.; and Sunday noon to 11 p.m. Call in your order at 461-7495 or 461-7511 or fax at 461-4393.
