Progress continues on West field project

Posted

Throughout the summer months and into the fall, signs of steady progress have been seen at the new Cranston High School West football field.

Last week’s latest additions – the turf and new Cranston West logo – have only added to the excitement and anticipation. Those latest updates join approximately 2,000 new bleachers, which were installed at the stadium over the summer.

The foundation work has also been started on the new press box, and many pavers for the van Eeghen Alumni Pavilion have been purchased with more still available.

Signs showcasing local businesses are being installed along the field, thanks to business sponsorships. However, signage opportunities are limited and signs are going fast, according to Cranston West Alumni Association president David DiMaio.

Recent fundraisers benefiting the project include an August comedy event that raised more than $17,000 and a 50/50 raffle held at the first football game on Sept. 13, which garnered over $1000. Additionally, a $1,000 community grant from OneCranston has helped with the accessible seating section of the stadium. A railing for that section will be installed soon as well.

The Thirsty Beaver recently hosted a Trivia 4 a Cranston Cause event on Oct. 8 with a suggested donation and proceeds benefiting the alumni association’s projects.

Additional funding, donations of materials and in-kind labor are still needed as the project approaches completion – specifically interior materials for the press box, metal studs, flooring and roofing materials. Anyone who is interested in making a donation or sponsoring signage along the field can contact David DiMaio at davidcdimaio@gmail.com.
