CranstonArc held its 16th annual Golf Tournament on Friday, Aug. 28 at Cranston Country Club. This annual event is CranstonArc’s major fundraising endeavor that provides funding for its Adult Recreational Program.

“We embarked on this year’s event with the understanding that it may be more difficult to enlist financial support,” said Tom Kane, CranstonArc’s president and CEO. “We felt that the state of the economy would threaten the success of the tournament, however, this year, for the first time in the 15 years of hosting the tournament, we had a waiting list of players. I never expected that.”

The tournament’s major sponsors, D.E.G. Associates, Inc., Title Sponsor and Shaw’s Supermarkets Luncheon Sponsor significantly affected the net proceeds of $28,000. Peter and Rosemary Rotelli, the tournament’s co-chairs were happy with the results and thanked all of the participants.

The silent auction featured trips to San Francisco and Nantucket, as well as a cruise around Newport harbor for 10 on the 12-meter Easterner donated by Shake-A-Leg. Each department created a gift basket for inclusion in the raffle.

“It was all about teamwork,” Rosemary said. “As a mother whose son benefits from the programs available at CranstonArc, I am grateful for their personal commitment to CranstonArc and their desire to help make the tournament a success.”

The Recreational Program provides CranstonArc’s adult consumers with opportunities to participate in social activities and physical activities in and around the state.

“It is important to have meaningful recreational and leisure time in our lives. This is true for all people without regard to ability or disability,” said Kane. “The Recreation Program is funded solely by fundraising activities and private donations and it is for this reason that we dedicate the funds from the golf tournament each year to recreation.”
