Report Inappropriate Comments

We need to concentrate on the crime which is the actual assault or injury caused to another. We have free speech in this country which is the same as free thought. After all what are you speaking if not your thoughts?

When I was a child I learned about sticks and stones can hurt but not words. We are at a point in our history where this is changing. Speech somehow can be violence. Lets not confuse unpopular thoughts that are spoken, with instigating speech which would be a call to violent action.

The qualifier of "hate" in the term "hate crime" should mean nothing in our country with a perpetrator tried on the assault/crime and not the reason. The only reason to do violence on another is protection of self or another or one's property but that's for a jury to decide.
