Posted by jacko3

Friends of The Arboretum is a newly-launched, cooperative communal measure by the Kent County Junior Chamber & Central Rhode Island ('JAYCEES') Alumni Asscoiation.

Located along the WestBay Bikepath @ Riverpoint COMMUNITY Park, which is home to the Senator Roch Riverwalk and JAYCEE Corridor & Arboretum.

Friends of The Arboretum Program is a flexible, friendly and fun Open Space gardening program for adults, men and women, retirees, groups, families, students and corporations.

This horticulture volunteer program introduces individuals to the beautiful public gardens of the award-winning JAYCEE Riverwalk Corridor & Arboretum and offers an opportunity to become involved in the maintenance and improvement of this special place.

Gardening is a healthful and rewarding experience while having fun developing gardening skills, learning about plant materials and what's involved by assisting the JAYCEES with horticultural tasks while maintaining a variety of specialty gardens.

This program is offered during the week, some hand tools are provided and scheduled workshops on tool sharpening, pruning, weed identification as well as general garden maintenance is offered throughout the season.

Volunteers can assist at Special Events with such general gardening duties, teach workshops on plant-related subjects, conduct garden tours, create flower arrangements, photograph and/or video-tape events, help maintain a trail or portion of a trail, flower bed section(s) as individuals, families, groups or organizations (clubs, camps, scouts, etc.).

Skills Horticulture: learn & share ecology of trees and plants Requirements None - just desire for public gardening & outdoor fun!

The JCS Riverwalk Corridor & Arboretum always appreciates Friends & Neighbors coming out and lending some of their valuable time to maintain and enjoy the splended feel and colorful view of the Arboretum and its natural environment.

We welcome all Volunteers and are very grateful to Friends that regularly join us throughout the planting season such as Students, Scouts, Seniors, Veterans, Employee & Church Groups, Developmentally Challenged Residents, Government Officials, Business Leaders, Civic Organizations and just great people all the time.

The JCS Arboretum also awards Community Service Credits(CSH) for anyone that has to fulfill court-mandates school requirements or church obligated services as well.

If you want to get out into the great outdoors with your family, friends or simply just putter around the grounds for physical exercise or mental harmony, please contact us anytime.
