On April 14 at about 5:30 p.m., Cranston police say, officers responded to a report of armed robbery in the Chapel View Plaza near Cold Stone Creamery. Two juveniles reported being confronted and robbed at gunpoint by a group of four males.
The victims, ages 14 and 16, said the suspects approached them and demanded personal belongings, including designer shoes, a sweatshirt and jewelry. The victims said one suspect brandished a firearm and threatened to shoot one of the victims. They said the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle that was later identified as a ride share operated by a registered driver.
Through investigation by Cranston detectives, including the analysis of social-media posts, surveillance video and eyewitness accounts, four suspects were identified and arrested:
Recovered items included high-value clothing and accessories, such as a Spider brand sweatshirt and Balenciaga sneakers. One suspect was apprehended while wearing the stolen shoes.
The suspects face charges including two counts of first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Police say additional victims have since come forward, linking the same suspects to other robberies. Cranston’s police chief, Col. Michael J. Winquist, said the investigation, which continues with assistance from local and state law enforcement agencies, is a top priority.
“The safety of our community is paramount,” Winquist said. “Our officers acted swiftly and with great professionalism to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for these violent acts. We thank our partner agencies for their cooperation and urge any additional victims or witnesses to contact our department.”
