It’s amazing what has taken place in such a short time. Who would have thought that along with our phones, we would now have to remember to bring a mask of some kind if we are going out in public?

I feel such a disconnect with people when I can’t see their smile and they can’t see mine. I wonder what life will look like moving forward.

It’s amazing all the things we took for granted. I miss going to a local pub every Friday night to catch some live music. I know many musicians that supported themselves by gigs on the weekend that haven’t been able play out. As I drive by all the closed restaurants and stores, I worry about all the small businesses that will be affected.

I have been in the beauty and wellness industry for over 40 years. I know that many salons and spas will not survive. Paying the rent without any income from clients or people renting space will surely be impossible for some.

I don’t agree with all that our governor has done with regards to closing businesses. Having owned a salon for over eight years, I know the struggles salon owners face. Now my income is from my Airbnb. As you can imagine, I haven’t had a guest in over six weeks, so no money is coming in as bills still have to be paid.

Although I’ve applied for unemployment and a small loan, I have yet to receive anything. Thank goodness I had some money saved and am able to pay my bills. So much for the hot tub I was going to get this spring!

The good news … I’ve learned to pace myself better, knowing time is abundant. I hope I can continue this moving forward as it has made me appreciate the small things. I can hear the birds chirping, I can smell the ocean right in my backyard and my puppy Lucas and I have become really close. I actually find myself talking to him and sometimes I answer for him as well!

So, friends, take care, support the small businesses in your area when they reopen, and know that we will all get through this, together! Check out my blog at SixtiesAndSexy.net or email me at SixtiesAndSexy@gmail.com.
