Fall has cometh ...

My favorite season is summer. I like spring because it means summer is coming. I like spring because the flowers start to pop out and you can plan your summer garden.

As much as I wish summer would last longer, Mother Nature decides. Even my garden knows summer is over.

I’ve made lots of gravy with the tomatoes and have it frozen and waiting for a cold winter’s night. There are loaves of zucchini bread frozen. I’ve already handed out dozens.

Now is the time of year that you close the windows at night and open them mid-morning! It’s like a switch flipped! The nights are cool and crisp, the mornings are downright chilly. On our Walk and Talk at Rocky Point, we went from T-shirts and shorts to hoodies, hats and gloves! All in one week.

Don’t get me wrong, I like fall. The smells of fall are great! The air smells clean and fresh. I love making big pots of soup, stews and artisan breads. I live alone, so I share my goodies with my friends and neighbors. It’s time for apple picking and then of course, apple pies!

So yesterday I decided to accept that fall is inevitable. I’m taking down my summer decorations and replacing them with fall things. I made a great Halloween wreath yesterday complete with spiders and purple and orange ribbons. So I get it, it’s inevitable!

I think the worst thing about fall is that winter comes next. I love the holidays and all the fa-la-la-ing that goes with it.

November is my birthday month. Thanksgiving is always fun and full of wonderful foods. Then comes Christmas. Really, who doesn’t like Christmas?

After that, it goes downhill. Why can’t spring start right after Valentine’s Day? I could do without March and even April.

So, I’ll unpack my boots and sweaters and dive into fall. Let the decorating and baking begin!
