The 2025 class of the Cranston Hall of Fame will induct five new members into its roster of more than 200 members.
The Cranston Hall of Fame Foundation is a nonprofit foundation established in 1980 by the Cranston School Committee. According to its website, the Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who demonstrate distinguished achievement, commitment and dedication to community involvement.
Steven E. Marocco is one of the five members being inducted into the Cranston Hall of Fame. A graduate of Cranston High School West, he is the owner of Elmwood Sports Center and a dedicated community leader who has played a cornerstone role in the development and redevelopment of Cranston’s League for Cranston’s Future.
A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Marocco has been involved with CLCF since 1986. He currently sits on the board of directors as the fundraising chairman for the group.
Over the years, Marocco has served CLCF as a coach, board member, president, past president and fundraising chairman. His passion to make a difference arose through his tenacious fundraising efforts to bring the organization to a higher level of success now and in the future.
The CLCF headquarters was in dire need of restoration and expansion. Through Marocco’s efforts, $1.4 million was raised to build an addition and completely renovate the rest of the building for the benefit of the families who use it. A building that was home to five feet of water during the floods of 2010 is now one of the crown jewels of Cranston.
A respected philanthropist, Marocco established the Marocco Family Student Athlete Academic Center at Rhode Island College in 1998 and provides financial support for more than 400 student athletes each year through his sponsorship of the Rhode Island College golf tournament.
He has received numerous awards, including the Special Olympics of RI Inspire Greatness Award, the Centennial Award of Distinction for Rhode Island College Athletics and the K. Joseph Shekarchi Award for Outstanding Contributions to Athletics at Rhode Island College.
In view of his incredible work ethic and personal commitment to furthering the growth of CLCF for the benefit of currnt and future generations of Cranstonians, the Cranston Hall of Fame proudly installs Marocco as a member of the Class of 2025.
The annual Cranston Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Oct. 17 with social hour starting at 5 p.m. and the ceremony at 7 p.m., at the Alpine Country Club in Cranston.
