A masterpiece at Edgewood Highland Elementary

For the better part of the summer, Edgewood Highland  parent Amy Sloan and her band of hard working volunteers devoted hundreds of hours to the mural project.

What started with an idea by Sloan, has bloomed into a multi-level project with an all hands on deck attitude.

"I am thrilled with how the mural is coming along. I am so grateful to everyone involved for entrusting me to lead this project and helping me bring my vision to life," Sloan said.

Sloan is grateful to all the businesses and vendors who supported and donated to the cause.

"Extra special thanks to Adler's Design Center and Hardware that has donated more thyan 20 gallons of paint thus far. Harry Adler and Cristine DeMarco have been super supportive and helpful throughout this entire process. Anthony Olaes and Servpro of Providence donated labor, man power, and will be providing light refreshments for our ribbon cutting event," she said.

Clean Kat Solutions gave them a discount for power-washing and the Cranston Family Center donated paint brushes and other supplies from their Lowe’s wishlist.

Sloan gives all the kudos to her original mural committee; herself, Megan Cresci-Johnson, and Aubrey Collins. Other volunteers include the Pacheco family, Danielle Gervais, Katie Kelly, Katie Justis, new Principal Ryan Kavanaugh and Michael Pesta (Sloan's Dad).

Sloan's volunteer team helped make the long days go fast, and everyone quickly became a team.

"Our volunteers were; Mariana Melendez, Adrienne D'Arconte, Kathy Pesta, Noelle Kristiansen, Jose Marinez, Luis Kelly, Caroline & Matt McConnell, Kristen Lavery, Jill & Danny Pacheco, Kelly Easton, James Sloan, Jay Cresci, Dawn Renaud, Laura Liddle and students from Ocean State Kidz Club, and many more neighbors and community members who stopped by to help, drop off donations, and cheer us on," Sloan said.

With a brand new principal starting this year, it was a nice way to welcome him to the Edgewood Highland community.

"This project has been tremendous for the Edgewood Highland School Community. The beautiful artwork that has been wrapped around this building creates a feeling of warmth and happiness just to look at it. I know the students, families and faculty of this community are going to absolutely love seeing this mural each and everyday when they arrive at school. I can't thank all the hard work that the Edgewood Highland PTO has done to make this dream a reality. The PTO and volunteers deserve all the recognition for making this happen, I am proud to play a small role in supporting their efforts as principal," said Ryan Kavanagh.

Sloan, is very excited to get started on the next chapter of this project.

"The next phase includes two more walls, one of which will feature our Donor Wall. We are hopeful to continue and reach our goal of repainting the entire school. Please reach out to ptoedgewoodhighland@gmail.com if you'd like to get involved," said Sloan.
