A threat to our city's health

To the Editor:

5G Free RI was created to protect our city and state from the threat of pulsed microwave radiation at 60GHz, on residents’ telephone poles, enabling 5G.

Informed by countless hours of webinars by prominent scientists and health professionals, we have worked tirelessly to share this information with the elected officials whose job it is to protect their constituents from harm.

On June 5, we hand-delivered to City Hall a nine-page cease-and-desist notice, detailing the harms and the legal means by which we can stop the rollout. This was accompanied by a copy sent USPS certified mail and emails to every council member and city solicitor. There was no response, and our follow up three weeks later produced, “Oh, we didn’t see it.”

After several requests, 5G Free RI members were granted the opportunity to speak at the Aug. 24, 2020, Cranston City Council meeting, at which Council President Farina overruled two objections to our expert speaker, Cece Doucette of Massachusetts for Safe Technology, who gave an informative 20-minute PowerPoint presentation. Six of us provided more information on how the city is at risk of lawsuits, and loss of tax revenue, as homes near a 5G antenna lose value.

Because she was not a council member, we provided mayoral candidate Bucci with our information, and asked how she would protect the city’s constituents were she elected mayor. Despite three emails and one phone call, we have received no response from her.

Likewise, council member Hopkins failed to respond to our two email messages that asked the same question.

5G Free RI’s Sheila Resseger asked during the public comment section of the October 5 Cranston City Council meeting what discussion followed our August presentation. There was no response at the meeting nor any time since.

5G Free RI is not a special interest group, but one made of residents who work tirelessly to provide answers to our unaware and clearly indifferent elected officials who don’t recognize that we are trying to protect their health also! There is much discussion as to how to make the school buildings safe for students, yet a 5G antenna was erected at Cranston West High School!

We ask our council members and candidates, why are you unresponsive to an urgent matter, presented so thoroughly and factually?

Why do you seek office when you show that you are not willing to participate with your constituents who have provided all the research for you?

Why does council member Hopkins ignore the 5G threat, when in regards to the proposed cell tower in green space, Mr. Hopkins said at the Sept. 23, 2019, Cranston City Council meeting, “If the health and safety of one of our residents is affected by a cell tower, I don’t want it. One person, I don’t want it”?

The vote was unanimous to deny the cell tower. The “small” antennas for 4G/5G are deployed on telephone poles outside a residents’ bedroom window. And more than “one person” will be harmed.

We invite residents to visit 5GFreeRI.com so that you know how the rollout of the 5G antennas emitting life-harming radiation is endangering your health and the health of your children, of wildlife, and of trees.
