Summer is my favorite season. I love fall; however, I know that right after that it’s winter.

It has been an interesting summer. Lots of super-hot days, and lots of rain. My garden was different this year. I had more zucchini and peppers then people should be allowed to have, but not as many tomatoes as last year.

In early September we had that terrible rain from Hurricane Ida. The scenes were surreal with roads crumbling and basements and houses flooded. I ended up with about three inches of water in my crawl space. It seemed like when the storm pulled out, it took summer with it. Just like that! The air was cooler and drier, even the smell was different.

I’m a girl that doesn’t like to dwell on things, so as much as I hate summer’s quick departure, I’m going to embrace fall. Bring on the fall festivals! Arts and crafts, antiques, apple cider and pumpkins are just some of the things that fall brings to New England. It’s still warm enough during the day to wear summer clothes, but make no mistake about it – if you plan on being out when the sunsets, pack that hoodie or sweater.

If you are an adventurer, you could always take a ride to New Hampshire or Maine. One of the great things about living in Rhode Island is that most things are close enough for a day trip. So, pack up that lunch basket, blanket and some apple cider in a thermos and go out and enjoy this beautiful weather!
