'Anon(ymous)' coming to Cranston West stage

Posted

Cranston High School West’s Theater Program will present “Anon(ymous)” during a three-day run starting March 13.

Adapted from Homer’s epic “The Odyssey,” “Anon(ymous)” by playwright Naomi Iizuka is a beautiful, gritty, contemporary retelling of the hero’s journey, exploring themes of immigration, interculturalism, poverty, and the meaning of home.

Centering on the memories of a nameless and homeless orphan as he journeys through the United States, “Anon” encounters a wide variety of people and a chaotic, ever-changing landscape as he searches for his family.

Led by theater teacher and director Nancy Vitulli and a talented cast of student actors, the play takes audiences on a surreal journey, filled with compelling characters.

The award-winning Cranston West Theater Program prepares students who plan to further study or work in theater arts, as well as to develop the confidence, poise, articulate communication, teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, and reflective strategies required to become productive members of society.  In a theater classroom or production environment, all students are encouraged to develop a lifelong appreciation for theatre arts.

Performances of “Anon(ymous)” will be held Friday, March 13, and Saturday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m. All performances are at the Cranston West Alumni Theater, located at 80 Metropolitan Ave.

All general admission tickets cost $10. Tickets will be sold during all lunches and one hour before each performance. For more information, call 270-8149.
