Artists' Exchange to host 'A Christmas Carol Celebration'

Join Artists’ Exchange this week on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. in reminiscing through 16 years of “A Christmas Carol” with a special, celebratory look back at previous productions.

This year, audiences can view Charles Dickens’s classic tale from the comfort of their own homes through Rhode Island PBS’s OVEE platform. Watch as the story is told throughout the years, from the first recorded in-house production to performances at the Park Theatre and Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, as well as original adaptations including a musical version. The digital celebration will also feature an interactive talkback, where audiences will not only get a peek behind the scenes but will even have an opportunity to live-chat questions with a panel of former “A Christmas Carol” directors and actors throughout both the film and the talkback.

“We were looking for some way to connect with our community – our neighbors, the annual audiences, former participants, even those who may have moved away,” said Megan Howe, the theater manager of Artists' Exchange. “This year brought many challenges, especially to the theatre and arts community, but we hope that this journey into our ‘Christmas Carols past’ will bring joy to our audiences and a sense of togetherness during this time apart.”

Registration is free for “A Christmas Carol Celebration” but required through Rhode Island PBS’s OVEE Platform. However, donations to help support continued and future Artists’ Exchange programming are greatly appreciated. The film is 50-minutes in length with a 15-minute interactive talkback directly following. A link will be sent via email to join and view the performance. Registration can be found on Artists’ Exchange’s website, artists-exchange.org, or through Rhode Island PBS’s OVEE platform. After the Dec. 17 event, there will also be additional extended interviews and production content available online to keep the holiday cheer going.

Be sure to share your memories of “A Christmas Carol” with Artists’ Exchange on Facebook and Instagram and follow us to stay up to date on all the great events and activities happening.
