Artists selected for arts commission’s Bright Box project

The Cranston Arts Commission (CAC), in collaboration with Cranston City Council, is sponsoring the Bright Box Project, a public art project beautifying electrical boxes within the City’s six wards. The goal of this project is to unify the city by exploring its artistic community, elevating the visibility of those talented folks, and enriching the ‘Cranston Experience’ of all of those who live and pass through this great city.

The commission said that in individuals’ travels throughout the City of Cranston, they may be seeing artists at work, painting electrical boxes. The Cranston Arts Commission recently awarded six artists, after receiving 17 submissions through an RFP process.

“All of the submissions were of high quality and well thought out, but the 6 that were chosen had the combination of artistic appeal as well as visibility and approachability for where they would be viewed as public art” said Leah Hill, Vice-Chair of the Cranston Arts Commission.

The winning artists are as follows: Forrest Curl – Ward 1, Ryan Dean – Ward 2, Sharli Polanco – Ward 3, Carolyn Jayne – Ward 4, Cory Bergeron – Ward 5 and Kyle Machado – Ward 6.

The Cranston Arts Commission is a group of artistically driven Cranston, Rhode Island residents, appointed by the mayor or city council. The commission’s main focuses surround community engagement, education through the arts and promoting artistic achievement in the city’s neighborhoods. More information can be found on their website: https://www.cranstonartscommission.org/ or our facebook page @cranstonartscommission. Monthly meetings are typically held on the 3rd Monday of the month, 6 p.m. at the Artists’ Exchange (50 Rolfe Square, Cranston) and are open to the public.
