The governor’s pause has closed the Avon and Warwick Showcase, and the Rustic Drive-in closed last weekend.

To make matters more difficult for movie theater owners and movie lovers, Warner Brothers announced that they would be streaming their new releases on TV at the same time they are released to theatres.

Thank God for Netflix, HBO and Disney Plus for giving movie fans an option.

The big news is the upcoming release of “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” on Netflix, starring the late Chadwick Boseman and Rhode Island’s own Viola Davis. We saw August Wilson’s play at Trinity, and it is a winner.

“The Break” on Netflix is an exciting and unusual murder mystery that takes place in a small Belgian town where most of the people have their own hidden secrets and the inspector has a few of his own. I enjoyed season one a bit more than season two.

“Undercover” is a 2019 Showtime thriller, now streaming on Netflix. It takes place in Western Europe, mostly in the city of Limburg, labeled the Ecstasy capitol of the world. It is “inspired by” the true story of two undercover cops who infiltrate a drug kingpin. Much of the action takes place in a campground.

The first season is 10 episodes, which will keep you glued to the screen. I’ve just started watched the second season, which starts with a shock, as one of the main characters is killed off.

Netflix has just released “Mank,” the story of the writer of the script for Orson Welles’ “Citizen Kane,” set back in the 1930s and ’40s.

It is an interesting tale of Hollywood life in the days when silent films were changing to talkies. Gary Oldman is great as Mankeweicz, the drunken, unpredictable writer who fights with everyone from Hearst on down, using him as the subject for his classic film.

The movie gets a bit talky at times, delving in politics, war, the depression, communism and the film industry. Movie buffs won’t want to miss it.

Started watching “Witcher,” the weird series about sorcerers and monsters, set in primitive times. There is a bit too much violence, but the special effects are impressive.

“Unorthodox” is a new limited series story about Esty, a Hasidic Jew living in New York City who abandons her strict religion and husband and escapes to Berlin, where she tracks down her birth mother and sets out to make a new life for herself. The poignant tale is based on a true story.

Like old movies? It doesn’t get any better than the Turner Classic Movies, which shows the classics day and night without commercials. Movie experts comment on the films and give the audience interesting background.

Everything from “The Maltese Falcon” to “Singin’ in the Rain” to old Buster Keaton shorts can be enjoyed once again on this great channel.
