SING SING

(Theatre in the Prison)

Nominated for 3 Academy Awards, “Sing Sing” is based on a true story about a theatre group made up of prisoners at the infamous Sing Sing Correctional Facility.

Colman Domingo stars as Divine G, serving a long prison term for a murder he did not commit.

Looking for purpose in his drab life, he forms a theatre group, enlisting the help of an outside director and serving as a facilitator.

The story moves slowly through the process of preparing the inmates to play a role by rehearsing and eventually performing before the prison audience.

We get to know about the inmates--their personal lives, their feelings, their hopes and dreams and the anger that builds inside them.

Most of the roles are played by formerly incarcerated prisoners.

COMING SOON

Two Academy Award-nominated films are scheduled next at the Avon: THE ROOM NEXT DOOR, starring Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton and I’M STILL HERE, from Brazil.
