The Cranston East softball team picked up its first win since the 2021 season when it shut out Classical 16-0 last week at home.

The Bolts jumped out to a quick lead, putting up 10 runs in the first two innings to grab control early. Jazelle Monteiro led the Bolts at the plate with five RBI while Ysabel Montenegro, Jaeda Viveiros, Melanie DeLeon and Chloe Mercedes all knocked in two RBI each. Jaylanie Rosado finished with three hits and an RBI as well.

Kiara McGarty got the win in the circle, pitching all five innings and allowing just one hit while striking out seven batters.

The Bolts finished last season winless and have started the 2023 season with a 1-3 record. East most recently faced Shea/Tolman on Monday afternoon, where it fell 16-0 in five innings. East finished with two hits from Trisha Lizarda and Estrella Rivas.

East dropped its season opener in a 20-5 decision to Davies Career & Tech on April 4. Monteiro led the way at the plate by knocking in two runs while Viveiros, Rosado and McGarty also recorded RBI. McGarty pitched 4 1/3 innings for the Bolts and finished with seven strikeouts.

East then fell to Tiverton 17-6 the following game. Leanna Garcia knocked in a pair of runs while DeLeon, Rosado and Lizarda all scored RBI. McGarty pitched 2 2/3 innings and picked up one strikeout.
