Bolts off to strong start

The Cranston East girls tennis team has jumped off to a solid 3-2 start this fall as it looks to rebound after a tough two-win season in 2021.

The Bolts picked up wins over West Warwick, Shea and Woonsocket to stay above .500 while falling to Providence County Day and Scituate.


Here is a look at some of the results:

East 7, Shea 0

East’s top performance came against Shea when it rolled to a 7-0 shutout win. Isabella Ba took home a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles while Helena Fisher won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. Amaya Cabral wrapped up a win at third singles, winning in three sets by scores of 7-5, 5-7, 6-0. Tayla Potter rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the fourth spot.

Sophie Vorperian and Olivia Tomaselli took home a win at first doubles, winning in three sets by scores of 5-7, 6-3, 7-6. Kiara McGarty and Mariah Means-Waldorf took home a 6-4, 6-1 win at second doubles, while Genesis Marion and Bella Hassell won 6-1, 6-1 in the third spot.


East 4, Woonsocket 2

The Bolts won a tough 4-2 decision over the Villanovans.

Potter wrapped up a win at fourth singles in three sets, winning 6-7, 6-4, 6-3. McGarty and Thora Corcoran won at second doubles 6-3, 6-3 while Marion and Means-Waldorf took home a win at third doubles.


East 6, West Warwick 1

The Bolts cruised to a win on the road last Friday afternoon in West Warwick. Fisher, Cabral and Potter won their singles matches while Tomaselli and Voperian combined for a win at first doubles. McGarty and Corcoran combined to win at second doubles and Means-Waldorf and Hassell took their match at third doubles.

The Bolts were back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they traveled to Warwick to take on Toll Gate. East will be back in action against Bay View this Thursday on the road, and will host Central next Monday.
