The concept of family has evolved over the years. There are many configurations that provide love and security. I was lucky enough to have been brought up in such an environment. Caring comes in many forms. When those various forms include security children will thrive. The poem Mom and Dad hopefully speaks to the guidance provided by those who raise us. Raising children is vital for their developing into capable citizens. A little love, guidance and consistency goes a long way.
Mother’s Day is around the corner. Father’s Day won’t be far behind. Whatever the construct of family the Coronavirus crisis has highlighted the need for stability at home. I know that it has been super hard for many of you. It is so important that we protect our families. Let us give thanks to the moms, dads and other caregivers who keep it all together.
Mom and Dad
She held my hand
He had my back
There wasn’t much money
But we never lacked She watched me to school
He worked late into night
Our house wasn’t big
But we knew wrong and right My sister and I
Felt safe and secure
That was because
Of both him and her He threw me a ball
She packed up my lunch
When I got in trouble
They each had a hunch He led by example
She there by his side
All through life’s journey
They served as a guide My sister and I
Felt safe and secure
That was because
Of both him and her Now I am older
Have laughed and shed tears
I look back quite fondly
At all of the years When I gaze at the mirror
There is more than a trace
Of those who have loved me
All over my face My sister and I
Felt safe and secure
That was because
Of both him and her Happy Mother’s Day. Happy Father’s Day. Also, happy remembrance of how important families are. I was extremely lucky to have felt safe and secure. Thank you, mom and dad. I love you both.
