FROM STAFF REPORTS The CCRI Knights Men’s Basketball Team hosted the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College from Auburn, ME in the Cullen Fieldhouse last Saturday. The Knights defeated the Mustangs 79-59. With the victory CCRI improves to 3-1 on the season.

The Knights were riding a two-game winning streak and were playing a very tough team from Central Maine who always give the Knights a very tough game.

Central Maine came out of the gates shooting very well as David Corey sank three 3-points baskets. The Knights answered with Captain Luke Fusaro (Charlestown) who scored eight first half points including two 3-pointers of his own. Helping Fusaro was freshman guard Nelvin Blanco (Cranston) who also scored eight first half points.

The Knights started to pick-up momentum as Blanco and Fusaro began working the ball to the Knights frontline players who added 12 points to the Knights first half scoring tally. By utilizing a more balanced attack the Knights were able to go into halftime with a 39-33 lead over Central Maine.

In the second half the Knights got even bigger contributions from their frontcourt. Sophomore forward Mitchell Noresca (East Providence) scored 10 of his team-high 15 points in the second half while Michael Resnick (Gloucester) added five points in the half. 

The Knights also got key contributions from their bench from Freshman Guard RJ Pina (East Providence) and Michael Harris (Cranston) who combined for 11 second half points. 

The Knights were able to control the boards with 49 rebounds while also sharing the ball with 16 assists and allowed no easy baskets inside the paint with seven blocked shots led by freshman forward Theo Jadotte (Providence) who led the Knights with three blocks. The winning combination of balanced offense and intense defense allowed the Knights to pull away for the Mustangs to win by the final score of 79-59.      

The Knights were paced by Noresca who charted his fourth double-double in four games with game -highs with 15 points and 15 rebounds and a blocked shot. Blanco also played very well with 12 points, three assists, a steal and a blocked shot. 

Levi King (Westerly) had eight points with 10 rebounds, two assist and a steal. Resnick also scored eight points with seven rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. Coming off the bench for the Knights was Harris with eight points, a game-high three steals and two assists and Jadotte added seven points, seven rebounds and a game-high three blocked shots.
