Multiple school records broken at class meet

By ALEX SPONSELLER The Cranston East and West indoor track and field teams followed up their strong showings at the divisional meet by putting on another show last week at the Class Championships. Now, all eyes will be on the upcoming state championships.

Here are some of the top performances from the class meet.

BOYS

Cranston East’s Jethro Vargas followed up a strong showing at divisions by winning the long jump last week and setting a school record in the process.

Manny Soler took third place in the 55 hurdles while teammate Nick Difazio placed third in the 300 dash. Soler also finished third in the high jump.

Difazio, Soler, Drew Evans and Alonso Parker-Sharpe finished fourth in the 1,600 relay

West’s team of Nate Quero, Will San Antonio, Alex Phok and Evan Lei finished fifth in the 3,200 relay while Steve Faccenda placed fifth in the shot put.

GIRLS

West’s Ailani Sutherland won the 55 dash while breaking the school record.

East’s team of Zoe Catrambone, Stella Loezos, Maddison Dutra and Amelia Catrambone finished third in the 3,200 relay, while Maddie Alves took third in the 55 dash for West. West’s Juliana Andrus, Julia Saccoccio, Praise Mayson and Gabriella Difilippo took third in the 1,600.

East’s Norah Flinn placed third in the long jump.

West’s team of Andrus, Rachel Hobin, Courtney Rice and Ayia Tatari finished fourth in the 3,200 relay, while East’s Madeline Baxter, Flinn Zoe Catrambone and Dutra took fourth in the 1,600.

Quiana Pezza placed fifth in the long jump for West.
