CLCF hosts Learn to Lax event

On Saturday, February 4, CLCF supported a learn-to-lacrosse event at Teamworks in Warwick.   We were fortunate to have roughly 50 players at the event, and about 35 of them had never played lacrosse before.  Lacrosse is back for the CLCF organization and we want to make sure the youth in our community get a fair chance to participate in a sport they may not have been exposed to before.

During the Learn to Lax event, children in grades K through 8 were given sticks to borrow, thanks to generous donations from RIYLL (Rhode Island Youth Lacrosse League), Ocean State Job Lot, and other local donors.   Jumping into any sport for the first time can be intimidating so we approached this event with the foundation of fun!  Having fun and letting the kids explore what a lacrosse stick can do were the first steps in our event.  Boys and girls were grouped by age and separated into three stations, learning the simple things like scooping a ball, throwing a ball, cradling, and shooting.  So many smiles were captured on this day, it was a huge success!

There is another free Learn to Lax event on Saturday, February 11 from 4-5pm at Teamworks in Warwick.  Boys and girls grades K-8 are welcome to sign up to attend. Equipment will be provided for those that need to borrow.  We are encouraging those that want to sign-up to do so after the event, there will be special offers available!

The CLCF Lacrosse season begins in April and is played outdoors until June.  Practices range from one to two days a week depending on age, and games are once a week on Saturday mornings. Teams are grouped according to their grades K, 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8.  Players are really needed on the Boys 5/6, Boys 7/8, and Girls 5/6 teams.  Coaches and volunteers are also needed, so please reach out if you'd like to help a great organization get rolling this spring!  You can visit www.clcfsports.org/lacrosse
