The Western Hills Middle School softball team saw its season come to an end in the state championship game last week at Rhode Island College, where it fell to Barrington 10-9 in a thriller.
The Cobras built a 7-0 lead in the third inning, but the Eagles flew back to make it 7-5 in the bottom of the inning. The two offenses traded shots the rest of the way and Western Hills entered the sixth inning up 9-8. Barrington scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning then closed the show in the seventh to complete the comeback win.
Natalie Borrayo drove in a pair of runs while Lily Jose, Annabella Olobri and Chloe Whittenberger also knocked in runs. Avery Grabowski went 2-for-3 and scored three runs for the Cobras as well.
Pitcher Isabella Marcano finished the game pitching six innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out 10 batters faced.
