A 64-year-old Bristol woman was arrested last week after allegedly buying a ticket and sending her 14-year-old granddaughter on a plane to Florida. She was charged with felony domestic child snatching because the juvenile is in the custody of her father in Rhode Island, who was unaware of the trip south.
The case began Friday, Oct. 30, when the father, a Cranston resident, filed a missing persons report in that city. Cranston detectives immediately began working on the case. They pinged the daughter’s cell phone, which came back as active in Pinellas County, Florida.
Working with authorities in Florida, they were able to find the girl and take her into custody. Their investigation revealed that Cheryl Ann Kelley of Bristol had purchased the plane ticket for the juvenile and brought her to the airport. The girl apparently flew alone.
Last Wednesday, Nov. 4, Bristol police officers served a warrant at Ms. Kelley’s residence, 25 Wapping Drive, Bristol. She was turned over to Cranston Police, who charged her with the felony. She was arraigned before a justice of the peace and released.
On Nov. 4 at 2:57 p.m., police arrested Timothy Furtado, 31, 136 Mayfield Ave., Cranston, on a charge of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance with intent to deliver and driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense. Police say Furtado was arrested as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Reservoir Avenue.
On Nov. 2 at 6:16 p.m., police arrested William Walter, 73, 121 Brayton Ave., Cranston, on a charge of domestic disorderly conduct.
On Nov. 5 at 8:15 a.m., police arrested Robert V. Fiore Jr., 38, 64 Perkins Ave., Cranston, on charges of domestic simple assault, domestic vandalism and domestic disorderly conduct.
On Nov. 5 at 8:48 p.m., police arrested Richard Hamilton Jr., 38, 214 Long View Drive, Warwick, on a charge of driving under the influence. Police say Hamilton was arrested after officers responded to a motor vehicle accident on Reservoir Avenue.
On Nov. 2 at 4:56 a.m., police arrested Nikita Johnson, 32, 187 Douglas Ave., Apt. 3, Providence, on a charge of obtaining vehicles with intent to defraud. Police say Johnson was transferred from the custody of Woonsocket Police.
On Nov. 5 at 10:16 a.m., police took Michael John Caton, 52, 30 Howard Ave., Cranston, into custody on a bench warrant issued from Superior Court. Police say Caton was arrested at the department’s Garfield Avenue headquarters.
