The Pub on Park in Cranston took center stage as the location for several shots in the upcoming movie, Charles Street.

Written and directed by Providence native, Nick Albanese, this will be his first feature film while being behind the camera.

As a young man in Providence Albanese went to Windmill Street School up until the eighth grade before attending Mount Pleasant High School until graduation from twelfth grade.

Despite calling Providence home, Albanese has a strong and enduring connection to Cranston.

"I've always loved Cranston, I've made a lot of friends here. Especially in 2015 with the Artists Exchange, and once I started performing in their spaces with my shows, I would always hang around there.  There are so many great spots, restaurants and things to do," Albanese said.

The premise of his upcoming movie is a group of criminals who commit cyber crimes out of their Charles Street neighborhood.Using the Pub on Park's bar area, and a very well hidden back room, the movie will highlight several local Rhode Island areas that are well known, and possibly recognizable to residents of the state.

Albanese kept the filming to a tight schedule. They basically did a 14-day shoot jammed into only half the time.

"We wrapped on Tuesday, October 9, 2:00 am. Took me all day Wednesday to adjust to the real world again," he said.

According to Albanese, editing will probably take a few months, after all there's a lot of footage there to go through. 

"I'm hoping to have a Rhode Island showing by spring or early summer. It was an incredible experience shooting my first feature film. I feel very blessed to have such an amazing crew and talented cast," he said.

A longtime friend, and the person who originally got Albanese onto a stage, is Cranston's own, John Perrotta.

"I've known Nick Albanese for over twenty years. Great actor, director, comedian, etc. Nick wears many hats, including being a great family man. I was amazed and thoroughly entertained the night I saw Nick portray Buddy Cianci at The Comedy Park in Cranston. Nick is very gifted. I wish him great success," Perrotta said.

Albanese knows it takes more than a village to make a movie.

“The two executive producers are Bob Mignarri from RI and Don Miller from NY, along with Marshall D’Ambrosio from Pub On Park and Carmine from Borrelli's Bakery. So thankful for all the support and encouragement from so many people," he said.
