Following in their founder’s motto of “deeds not words”, this past week at the Veteran’s Day parade, Cranston Cares was able to provide 300 turkeys to the needy in Cranston.
They were able to give 200 turkeys to CCAP, 25 turkeys to the RI Dream Center and six turkeys to Bain Middle School for their cultural holiday program.
The remaining turkeys were given out to Veterans and active duty military families at the parade.
Cranston Cares is a four-year-old nonprofit that provides equitable improvements throughout the entire Cranston Community. The organization started with DeCiccio, Erickson, Brady and has since evolved. Some of the organization’s work includes donating outdoor classrooms and flower beds to schools, collecting toys during the holidays for families in need, providing benches at Meshanticut State Park and more.
Cranston Cares purchased the turkeys from Cola Foods, and Gio Colagiovanni was very helpful, when at the last minute Erickson ordered 100 extra turkeys. Cola foods provided not only the turkeys but the refrigeration truck to keep them all in.
For Cranston Cares, it is a family connection. Not only were the boys best friends growing up, but Adam’s mom, Dawn is on the Executive Board and his son Gunner is an active participant in all events.
Despite the chill in the air, a majority of Cranston Cares board members showed up to participate in the program.
“It was a great day giving turkeys to those who served our country and provide us with the freedoms we have,” said Justin Erickson, Cranston Cares president.
Their Annual Toy Drive kicks off on November 28th at 6:00 pm. They are accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys all throughout December for children in Cranston.
