Cranston Cares gives annual donation to Cranston Fire for Halloween party

Posted

On Friday, October 20, several members of Cranston Cares visited the firehouse on Pontiac Avenue with a gift and presented them with a donation of $250.00.

"We are very pleased and excited to make sure that all Cranston kids have a great Halloween this year," said Cranston Cares President, Justin Erickson.

Cranston Cares was founded in honor and memory of Sgt. Adam Deciccio. Adam's philosophy of "Deeds not Words" is the organization’s mission.

Cranston Cares has donated funding to several Cranston schools in order to provide educational, recreational and motivational improvements throughout the schools and community.

The money provided to the Fire Department will pay for their annual Halloween party.

'We used to have parties at every fire house throughout the City," said Fire Union President, Armand Niquette.

As time went on, and attendance at other fire houses dwindled, the Pontiac Avenue station remained the steadfast location for trick or treaters.

"This is the biggest station in the City, and the second busiest, only behind Station 3 on Cranston Street," said Niquette.

In addition to providing funding for projects throughout the City, Cranston Cares also does their own good works.

For more than five years, Cranston Cares has donated 222 turkeys to veterans annually, as well as to active military families and those in need.

“Triple Deuce” was Adam’s Army unit; 2-22 Infantry 10th Mountain Division, and is the number Cranston Cares uses frequently in their endeavors as a way to honor him further.

This year they will again be passing out turkeys at the Cranston Veterans Day parade on Saturday, November 11.

Cranston Police and Fire both generously offered to help offset the costs. Members of Adam's family helped make up the deficit.

They have purchased eight benches around Meshanticut Lake, sponsored Fourth of July fireworks and assisted with blanket collections.

Cranston Cares will host its annual Christmas toy drive this year at the Cranston Thirsty Beaver.
