Your favorite summer tradition is back at Garden City Center!
Join in on Wednesday nights in July and August for good tunes, family fun and memories that will last well beyond the dog days of summer as part of the shopping center’s Summer Concert Series.
Garden City will be making these concerts even more exciting than ever, so stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks!
As of now, the schedule includes Funk Night featuring XS BAND on July 21; Tropical Night featuring The Copacetics on July 28; A night on the boardwalk featuring Elton John vs. Billy Joel on Aug. 4; and ’80s night featuring Fast Times on Aug. 11.

Cranston High School East is thrilled to announce a silent auction to benefit the East athletic programs. In an unprecedented move, the school will be auctioning off the original individual banners for both division and state championships won throughout the recent history of Cranston East, spanning the decades from approximately 1985 to 2019.
The older banners that previously hung in the school gym have been replaced with individual banners by sport in the gymnasium.
Cranston East alumni, residents and any other interested parties now have the opportunity to own their very own piece of Thunderbolts history for home or office, for oneself or for a gift. Cranston East is the original Cranston High School, and participants will be supporting the future of the school’s athletic programs.

The 56th annual Gaspee Days Parade will step off this Saturday, June 12, at 10 a.m. It will follow the route along Narragansett Parkway in Warwick to Broad Street in Cranston. Get your spot early! The ceremonial burning of the Gaspee will follow at 3 p.m. at Pawtuxet Park.
The Cranston Historical Society invites members of the community to attend the organization’s first 2021 event after the COVID shutdown.
The Rochambeau Strawberry Biscuit Tea at the Joy Homestead will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 18, with a rain date of June 20.
Celebrate the 240th anniversary of General Rochambeau’s march through Cranston, Scituate and Coventry on June 18, 1781, on the way to victory over the British at Yorktown.
The Joy Homestead, a historic site on the Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route, a National Park Heritage Trail, celebrates this march to cictory. The biscuits symbolize the local citizens giving food to the French soldiers as they marched along. The wagon carrying the bread and biscuits tipped over on what is now Biscuit Hill Road in Coventry, just before the Waterman Tavern.

The Cranston Public Library is excited to resume in-person computer classes this month. All computer classes will be held in person, with an option to join in virtually via Zoom.
Course offerings include Introductory and Intermediate Microsoft Excel, Introduction to the Ocean State Libraries Mobile App, and a new course, Introduction to Video Conferencing, coming up on Thursday, June 10, at 10 a.m. In this course, students will learn how to use Zoom, Google Meet and Facetime to create and participate in video meetings.

Cranston Public Library is excited to invite members of the community to join librarian Zach Berger in conversation with author Madeleine Henry to discuss her book “The Love Proof” during the 2021 Adult Summer Reading kickoff event. This author event will be held online on Tuesday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required at www.crowdcast.io/e/theloveproof/register.

Join in for “Trivia for a Cause” on Tuesday, June 15, at the Thirsty Beaver Cranston to benefit the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center.
The nonprofit center serves individuals and families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Organizers of the trivia event are asking for a $15 suggested donation per person. There will also be over $1,000 in raffle prizes.

Michaiah Kojoian, a resident of Cranston, was awarded a bachelor’s degree during Providence College’s commencement ceremonies held on May and was recently honored for her academic achievements. She was a classics major and a math minor.
She was awarded the Highest Academic Record in Classics. She was also the recipient of Leroy D. Aaronson Prize for Classics. This award was established by private donations to recognize excellence in the study of ancient Greek or Latin. Each year, a student who demonstrates superior accomplishments in learning an ancient language receives a classical reference book to honor his or her outstanding achievement.
Kojoian will be pursuing a master of classics degree at Tufts University.

The RSVP Program at Cranston’s Department of Senior Services is seeking volunteers to help to deliver brown bag lunches to seniors in the community, run errands for seniors and transport local homebound seniors to medical appointments.
You must be 55 years of age or older to volunteer and a BCI is required. Mileage reimbursement is given to cover travel costs. AmeriCorps Seniors will also provide insurance protection with three types of coverage – excess accident medical coverage, excess volunteer liability insurance and excess automobile liability insurance.

If you are 14 to 24 years old, CCAP’s Lean to Earn Program can prepare you for a great summer paid internship. CCAP’s youth employment, training and education programs provide a full range of services to young people enrolled in school and out of school. All enrollees are connected with a case manager to assist them in their education or employment goals throughout the program.
Programs offered include IT and manufacturing, interactive digital media and computer science, graphic communications, employer partner internships, intro to automotive, welding, it networking and marine trades and life skills.

Through the Books @ Home program, the Cranston Public Library provides free home delivery of books and other materials to qualifying, homebound residents of Cranston.

As a nonprofit community action program, CCAP needs to raise funds to assist families it serves. A large number of families CCAP serves have lost their jobs, suffered an illness, or experienced a different type of crisis, usually through no fault of their own. Last year, CCAP touched the lives of more than 40,000 people and provided over $1.2 million in uncompensated services.
Chip for Charity, presented by Neighborhood Health and Mutual of America, is CCAP’s largest fundraiser during the year to benefit its programs and services.
Be Kind RI is a new program that connects volunteers to their neighbors across Rhode Island through text alerts to coordinate food deliveries from grocery stores and food pantries.
