Cranston Free Bulky Waste Program

Starting March 1, Cranston residents can take advantage of the city's free bulky waste program. The program runs annually during the month of March only. During this month, the Department of Public Works shall pick up bulky waste, free of charge, subject to the following guidelines:  Residents MUST call Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 to schedule a free bulky waste pickup;  Pickups shall be limited to one scheduled trip with up to Three items per residential unit; - Bulky waste DOES NOT include mattresses, construction debris, TV’s or electronic goods, white goods or any household trash/garbage bags that would fit into the City provided 65 gallon cart or Overflow Bags.


Youth Ushers Program

Are you a high school student aged 16-18 who loves theater? If so, you can learn about professional theater and see shows for free – plus earn community service hours. It's easy and fun! For details visit gammtheatre.org/youthushers. Roles include: scanning tickets, directing patrons in the lobby and the theater, stuffing and/or passing out programs, seating patrons and answering patron's questions. In return, you have the option to earn community service hours and see Gamm productions for free! Chili Cook Off

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (111 West Shore Road) is hosting a Chili Cook Off on March 11, at 6 p.m. The cost is $10 per person or $25 per family; children under 6 are free. Please call the office at 737-3127 for reservations. If you would like to enter your chili let us know that – and make a crockpot full! Prizes will be awarded.


March is Women's Month at The Clouds Hill Museum

What were the roles played by women in society and at home?  Who held the world's records for mountain climbing at the beginning of the 20th century?  What did women do to help in the 1st and 2nd World Wars?  How did women fare trying to enter traditionally male occupations and while enjoying sports, while breaking free of traditional clothing restrictions?   Learn about Rhode Island's earliest female inventors, publishers, stock owners, and more.  This wonderful exhibit is open on Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12 from 1 to 3:30 pm without reservation. The Warwick Women’s Club (GFWC) Meeting

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Warwick Women’s Club will be meeting on Tuesday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center, 821 West Shore Road, Warwick (big white house). The club meets on the second Tuesday of every month from September to May.

 The Warwick Women's Club is a civic/community-minded club which provides funds for local organizations such as the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center and provides services and support for organizations such as the Norwood Boys' and Girls' Club, RI Community Food Bank, Project Undercover, FRIENDS WAY,  Amenity Aid and House of Hope.  There are many other activities that the club is involved in throughout the year including Pinwheels for Prevention of Child Abuse, thank you cards and Valentine cards for our veterans, and activities relating to domestic abuse.  Anyone wishing to attend this meeting, please call Carol at 738-1279.  For further information about this organization please visit our website at www.gfwcri.org.


Edgewood Yacht Club Open House

The Officers and members of the Edgewood Yacht Club will host its Annual Open House on Sunday, March 19, from 12 to 5 p.m. The Clubhouse, located at 1 Shaw Avenue in Cranston, has over 130 years of tradition on Narragansett Bay. Members will be available to offer tours and Information regarding yearly social activities within the Club. The Edgewood Sailing School will have staff on hand during the Open House for inquiries about Youth and Adult Sailing Programs. Light fare and refreshments will be available


CHS Tour with Tea Program

Enjoy an evening tour with tea at the historic Governor Sprague Mansion, 135 Cranston Street, Cranston, March 23, at 6:30 p.m.  We will share a brief introduction of the history of the Sprague Family and the A&W Sprague Textile Manufacturing Co.  Guests will tour the Sprague Mansion and will have an opportunity to visit the Sprague Carriage House (weather permitting).

The Tour with Tea program is designed to be a small, intimate gathering and includes a delightful treat.  Limited seating of 10 only.  Ticket:  Non-members $10; CHS members: $16.  Checks payable by March 19 to: Cranston Historical Society.  After March 19, call for availability.  For more details: 401-944-9226.

Cranston Parks and Recreation

Will be hosting an EASTER EVENT on Saturday, April 8th, inside the Pastore Center at 155 Gansett Ave, Cranston, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Easter Bunny plans to visit. Coventry Senior Band

More than 1 in 4 US households struggle with their home energy bills. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) can help keep the heat on. The Tri-County LIHEAP Program helps to cover the cost of home heating bills for those that qualify.

Tree Planting Program Now Accepting Applications

The Cranston Neighborhood Tree Planting Program is accepting applications for the 2023 spring planting schedule. The program is free to all eligible property owners – including homeowners, small business owners and non-profit organizations.

Help beautify Cranston by applying for a free, seven-foot-tall native species tree, which will be planted by a professional nursery.  Trees must be planted in the front yard, but not between sidewalks and the curb.

Color and Calm

Adults are invited to drop by Cranston Public Library’s Auburn branch every Friday from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. to color. The library has coloring books, mandalas, colored pencils and markers available, as well as herbal and decaf teas and soothing music. Decompress and head into the weekend refreshed! OneCranston Health Equity Zone is starting a new initiative with the Cranston Herald and local photographer Timothy McFate called Humans of Cranston; they will be interviewing Cranston residents to gain a deeper understanding of and celebrate those who live here. Those interviewed will be featured in a new column and on OCHEZ social media. 2023 Rotary Club of Cranston Community Service Scholarship

The Cranston Rotary Club will award four scholarships to one graduating senior from each of the four Cranston High Schools. Students are invited to apply to our scholarship before April 28. The scholarship awards will be announced in May. The financial amount varies each year depending upon the success of our club’s fundraising efforts.

All applications will be reviewed by a committee of Rotarians. Please complete all items listed in the application process; incomplete applications will not be considered.

You will notice that volunteer service is an important part of our application process. Through this process we hope to help hard working students gain a college education, but also hope to promote volunteerism in our Cranston community. Spring Street Festival

The City of Cranston and Cranston Police Department Special Projects Community Outreach Division will hold its spring street festival from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on May 21. The event will begin at the Park Theatre and run both sides of Rolfe Street. There will be vendors, crafters, food trucks, music, touch a truck and children’s activities. The fee for vendors will be $50 for a 12x12 space.
