Cranston Hall of Fame inducts 2012 class this Friday

Laura J. Albanese, Ed.D

Graduating in the Class of 1978 from Cranston High School West, Laura J. Albanese has distinguished herself as an outstanding educator, administrator and humanitarian. Albanese matriculated as an undergraduate at Rhode Island College in their teacher preparation program. She was awarded Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in education and Spanish in 1982.

During the next 10 years (1983 to 1993), Albanese taught in the Providence school district as a teacher of English as a second language and Spanish bilingual studies. Also during this period of time, Albanese was enrolled as a graduate student at Rhode Island College and was granted the Masters of Education degree in 1985. In 1991, Albanese received, from Providence College, the Master of Education degree with emphasis in school administration.

Albanese accepted an appointment from the South Kingstown school district as an elementary school assistant principal in 1993. She was appointed elementary school principal by the Cranston school district in 1994. Perhaps the crowning glory to Albanese’s graduate studies came in 2003 when Boston University bestowed upon her the Doctor of Education degree.

Due to a serious health problem, Dr. Albanese retired from the Cranston school district as Executive Director of Educational Programs. At the present time, Dr. Albanese is serving as a Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Rhode Island. Dr. Albanese is very active with professional organizations. She is a member of Phi Delta Kappa (educational society), the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Phi Sigma Iota and the Rhode Island Association for Elementary School Principals. She is extremely well certified as an educator, having been granted licensure with the Rhode Island Department of Education in the areas of teacher of elementary grades (K-6), English as a second language (endorsement), bilingual education (endorsement), middle school (endorsement), and school administrator (K-8).

Albanese is dedicated to her Armenian heritage and her church. She is a member of the Armenian Relief Society and a member of the Armenian Youth Federation Organization. Albanese has mentored and taught Sunday School and English language to Armenian immigrants from Baku. Currently, Dr. Albanese’s time and talents are directed in several ways. She is a member of the United States of America Dance, Rhode Island Chapter (Ballroom Dance, Tap and Jazz) and she teaches dance to students at the Trudeau Center. Albanese’s passion for animals has led her to become a member of the SPCA and a member of a local “Dog Foster Care” program. Albanese’s humanitarian attributes are demonstrated by continually raising monies for “Dance for a Cause” Brain Cancer Research “Ready for Life” program, the American Cancer Society and the Tomorrow Fund.

Through her exemplary leadership and service to all aspects of education, her humanitarian efforts and solid character, the Cranston Hall of Fame proudly installs Laura J. Albanese, Ed. D.

Donald C. Anderson, D.Min

A 1966 graduate of Cranston High School West, Donald C. Anderson was a member of the school’s fourth Senior Class. Doctor Anderson had distinguished himself in pastoral and administrative skills that have been demonstrated in local churches, church-related organizations and civil activities. Anderson has earned the Bachelor of Science degree in business education from Barrington College, the Master of Arts degree in religious studies from Providence College, and a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Eastern Baptist (presently Palmer) Theological Seminary.

Doctor Anderson is presently the Executive Minister for the Rhode Island Council of Churches, which is comprised of churches from 13 protestant denominations, seven affiliated church organizations and eight orthodox denominations. Currently, he is serving on an Interfaith Steering Committee that is seeking to reduce poverty in Rhode Island by 50 percent during the next 10 years. Doctor Anderson held pastorate in churches located in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and in addition he has served in administrative positions in religious houses and denominational ministries.

Doctor Anderson is very active in a number of civic organizations. He served as President of the Rotary Club of East Greenwich, a member of the Governor’s Panel on Immigration, a board member and Vice President of Scandinavian Home, a board member of The Homeless, and Executive Board Member of the Narragansett Council Boy Scouts of America. Doctor Anderson is also a member of Yom Hashoah Holocaust Memorial Committee, Temple Emanu-el, Providence, the Rhode Island Minister’s Alliance and serves as advisor and faculty member of the American Baptist Minister’s Council. Doctor Anderson has served as Chaplin of the East Greenwich Police Department, a member of the Attorney General’s Task Force to Improve End of Life Care, and has Chaired the East Greenwich Juvenile Hearing Board. Our honoree is the recipient of several prestigious awards including the Rhode Island “Kids Count” Court Award and the Luke Mowbary Ecumenical Award (the highest ecumenical award given by the American Baptist Churches of the United States of America).

Doctor Anderson enjoys fishing, kayaking, cheering for both the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, and visiting the many fine restaurants in Rhode Island. Together, he and his wife Debra have four adult children. They reside in North Kingstown.

For his outstanding and unique pastoral commitments, administrative skills, civic and community contributions, the Cranston Hall of Fame proudly installs the Doctor Donald C. Anderson.

Angelo A. Frattarelli, Esq.

Graduating from Cranston High School West, Class of 1982, Angelo A. Frattarelli, has distinguished himself as an outstanding trial attorney with the United States Department of Justice. Frattarelli graduated from Bryant College (presently Bryant University) with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in accounting. In 1986, he entered the New England School of Law. He was granted a law degree in 1989. Attorney Frattarelli continued his studies in tax law at the New York University and received the LLM Degree in tax law in 1990. Attorney Frattarelli won an appointment in 1991 as a trial attorney with the United Stated Justice Department’s Tax Division.

As a Justice Department Attorney, he won a precedent-setting tax case, helping the United States Internal Revenue Service receive billions of dollars in lost revenue. As a result of Attorney Frattarelli’s efforts and exceptional service, the United States Attorney General Erik Holder and Deputy Attorney Ogren honored the South Region Assistant Chief Angelo A. Frattarelli with the prestigious John Marshall award on Oct. 2, 2007. The John Marshall Award was also bestowed upon Attorney Fratterelli in 2009 for the year’s most stellar litigation in the Department of Justice.

In view of his distinguished accomplishments as a trial attorney, the Cranston Hall of Fame proudly installs Angelo A. Frattarelli, Esq.

John A. Tarintino, Esq.

A graduate of Cranston High School East in 1973, John A. Tarintino has distinguished himself as a trial attorney at both the national and international levels. Tarintino graduated from King College, University of London. He received the Bachelor of Arts degree (magna cum laude) from Dartmouth College in 1976. He was admitted to Boston College Law School, where he received the Juris Doctorate degree (magna cum laude) in 1981.

Attorney Tarintino was admitted to the Rhode Island United States District, District of Rhode Island, United States District Court, District of Massachusetts and the United States District Court of Appeals, First and Ninth Circuit United States Supreme Court, with all of this taking place in 1991. Attorney Tarintino is a founding member of the Justinian Society, a member of the National College of DUI Defense Faculty, the National College of DUI at Harvard Law School and Master of Scientific Evidence Program in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a Fellow in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American College of Trial Lawyers and the National Conference of Bar Presidents. Tarintino has served as President (1997 to 2004) on many professional organizations. They include: the Rhode Island, Massachusetts and American Bar Associations, the Rhode Island Bar Foundation Defense Council of Rhode Island, the New England Bar Association, the National Association of Bar Presidents, the National Italian American Bar Association and the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Attorney Tarintino has received a number of prestigious awards, including the Rhode Island Bar Association Award of Merit (2003), the Defense Research Institute Exceptional Performance Citation (2004), the Ralph P. Semenoff Professional Award (2006) and the Boston College Law School Alumni Award (2008). Tarintino has been selected as Super Lawyer of Rhode Island on four occasions (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010). Other certificates and credentials held by Attorney Tarintino include the American College of Trial Lawyers and International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Tarintino is an author of note having two articles appearing in Super Lawyers Journal, entitled “Batting Clean-up” and “When Defenders Need a Grand Slam.” Super Lawyers Journal is published in 50 states and reaches 13 million readers.

For having distinguished himself as a trial attorney at the national and international levels and for his contributions to the profession of attorneys, the Cranston Hall of Fame proudly installs John A. Tarintino, Esq.

Anthony Ventetuolo

As senior member of this year’s induction Class of 2012, Anthony Ventetuolo graduated from Cranston High School in 1939. Ventetuolo has distinguished himself as a public servant for 37 years and protector of environmental conditions through wastewater management. Upon graduation from Cranston High School, Ventetuolo became an employee of the City of Cranston’s Engineering Department.

With the outbreak of World War II, Ventetuolo enlisted in the United States Navy, Construction Battalion (known as C.B.’s) and served his country for five years. During his time, his C.B. Unit was attached to the 3rd United States Marine Divisions and they saw enemy action in the Aleutian Island, and the Japanese held Mariana and Okinawa Islands. As the war ended, Ventetuolo returned home to begin a 37-year career in wastewater treatment operations for the City of Cranston. While working his way up the organizational ladder, Ventetuolo successfully completed coursework at the University of Rhode Island and the University of Massachusetts with emphasis on scientific wastewater treatment. With the emergence of the United States Environmental Protection Agency in 1970, Ventetuolo had the wisdom and elected to take advantage of the various field-training opportunities that were offered at the University of Maryland, Sacramento State College and other EPA affiliated training sites.

During his career with the City of Cranston, Ventetuolo held a variety of positions culminating in 1966 with his becoming superintendent of the Water Pollution Control Facility. Under Ventetuolo’s stewardship, the Cranston Plant became recognized regionally and nationally as one of the most efficient systems in operation. Because of this distinction, Ventetuolo received numerous awards and citations for excellence in plant operations, which include the Chase Award by the New England Water Control Association, the C.A. Maguire Award, the Jenks Award, the Fay Spoffered & Thorndike Award offered by the Narragansett Water Treatment Association and the prestigious William D. Hatfield Award presented by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

Completing a highly successful public sector career, in 1978 Ventetuolo became a consultant for various private architectural and engineering firms specializing in wastewater treatment. Traveling around the country, Ventetuolo’s vast experience and knowledge was well received by municipalities seeking to improve wastewater treatment efficiency and cost. Ventetuolo has been affiliated with a variety of professional and community organizations. He was Past President of the Pawtuxet River Authority, the New England Water Pollution Association and the Narragansett Water Pollution Association. He served as a Governor on the Board of Rhode Island Public Works Association, the Cranston Municipal Credit Union and past member of the Cranston Rotary.

Ventetuolo was a member of the 1937 Cranston High School Thunderbird team and he was named All State lineman. His past athletic accomplishments might be the reason for Ventetuolo’s reputation as an avid and extremely good golfer. He has been married to his wife, Anne, for 63 years and they are parents to son, Anthony, Jr. They are also grandparents to two, Corey and A.J.

For his 37 years of public service and protection of our environment through management of the wastewater facility, the Cranston Hall of Fame proudly installs Anthony Ventetuolo.
