Cranston PD earns national accreditation

Posted

Colonel Michael Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department, announced the fourth National Accreditation of the Cranston Police Department by CALEA, Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. On April 2, 2022, the Cranston Police Department was the recipient of the CALEA Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation, which is active for four years.

In earning the distinction of the National Law Enforcement Accreditation, the department also earned Rhode Island State Accreditation. The Cranston Police Department joins a limited number of distinguished law enforcement agencies. Maintaining this accreditation status would not have been achieved without the strong collaboration, dedication and commitment of every member of the department, both sworn and civilian personnel. This award further symbolizes the pledge this agency has towards strengthening the relationship with the community and providing the best police practices in the country.

“We are proud to have earned the distinction of achieving state and national accreditation. CALEA accreditation is reserved for a limited number of police departments across the country and signifies our commitment to meeting the highest modern-day law enforcement standards. This award is directly attributed to the dedication to excellence put forth by every member of our department, both civilian and sworn. I hope our community shares my sense of pride in this accomplishment,” said Winquist.

“Cranston Police Department is proud to be recognized as an accredited law enforcement agency by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and the Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association. Once again, I am proud of our police department for conducting themselves with the highest standard of excellence, making them one of the few law enforcement agencies to receive this accreditation. The Cranston Police Department keeps our city safe while living up to the modern standards for appropriate law enforcement. Well done,” said Mayor Ken Hopkins.
