URI Master Gardeners: Vegetable Gardening @ Central Saturday, May 20 | 10:00 - 11:00 AM Vegetable gardening is an engaging and forgiving activity that requires basic knowledge of what vegetable plants need to thrive. Learn the basics of selecting a site for a garden, preparing it for planting, choosing seeds and plants, and planting them using a planting calendar. Learn about pests and weeds and how to deal with them, and how to care for your plants. And find out how to get help when you need it. Free and open to the public. Electronic Recycling Drop Off @ Central Saturday, June 10 | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Bring your unwanted electronics to Central Library for this e-waste recycling event. The IndiCycle van will be in the upper parking lot to help you dispose of unwanted electronics in an environmentally safe way. Visit events.cranstonlibrary.org/event/10705973 for a full list of what is and is not recyclable. While most items are accepted for free, a $10 disposal fee is charged for some items such as, laserjet printers, air conditioners, and other coolant-containing appliances.

Food Is Medicine Cooking Demo Series @ Central Tuesdays, June 13 - 27, and July 11 | 1:00 - 2:00 PM Learn how to prepare nutritious and flavorful meals on a budget and decrease your risk of obesity and related chronic diseases through food and diet changes. Each week of the series will feature a different recipe and live cooking demonstration with Kathi Masi, a nutrition and culinary arts specialist. Samples of the food will be available to taste. Participants who attend at least 3 sessions will receive a free bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a cookbook! Space is limited, and registration is required. The King-Makers of Providence: Author Event with John Houle @ Central Wednesday, June 14 | 6:30 - 7:30 PM Join Cranston resident and author John Houle for a discussion of his breakout novel, The King-Makers of Providence. John will discuss how his real life work in Rhode Island politics, in particular his role in the 2002 special election, inspired his fictional account. John will discuss the process of writing a novel and getting published and will include a sneak peak into his new novel, The Siberian Candidate, the continuation of his story. During the event, John will sell and sign copies of The King-Makers of Providence and can accept cash, check, Venmo, and credit cards. Free and open to the public.
