Retirements throughout Cranston schools are always bittersweet. Longtime teachers who have taught generations of students, and dedicated their careers to serving in Cranston schools, leave behind great memories and big shoes to fill.

According to the district’s central administration, 34 teachers put in for retirement for years ending 2020 and 2021.

Teachers, nurses, reading specialists, speech pathologists, social workers, an executive director and more all bid farewell to Cranston schools.

With an outstanding 906 total years combined, they truly made their marks in education.

Bidding farewell to Cranston Public Schools in 2020 were Dennis Curran, Bethany Spinwall, Nancy Gaiewski, Lauretta Lunghi, Gail Wall, John Scanlon, Cathy Cox and Kathleen Perry, who was the longest-tenured teacher at 49 years.

Patricia Burgess, Carl Bishop, Lori Brawley, Karen Altieri, Stephanie DiChiro, Elaine Roch, Sandra Salvati, Donna Durigan, Lorraine Faella, Joanne Kohm, Anne Stringfellow, Sandra Barber, Amy Misbin, Robert Nannig, Mary Jo Reidy, Robert Hassan, Charlene Lataille, Richard Carlson, Mary Coleman, Joseph Schiavulli, Marie Humphrey, Joan DeCubellis, Barbara Wahlberg, Sheila Hopkins, Geraldo Codola and Janette Harney all retired this year.

“On behalf of Cranston Public Schools, I thank all of these educators who helped raise the children of Cranston. You served the district for a long time, and are entitled to enjoy the next chapters,” Superintendent Jeannine Nota-Masse said.
