Reaching a milestone as remarkable as 100 years long is simply incredible. On Saturday, May 6, at the Church of the Annunciation on Oaklawn Avenue, Troop 6 of Cranston did just that.

With over 160 people in attendance, from Scouts,, Alumnus, friends and family the room was filled with laughter, camaraderie  and excitement.

"Lots of comments on how good the food was, my scout even tried eggplant and liked it. My favorite part was all the previous scouts who came," said Mariah Keenan, troop leader.

The evening was MC'ed by George Coclin, a former Scout parent and Troop 6 alumnus.

"Some of the best things that ever happened in my life are because I was Scout," he said.

Coclin went on to tell the story of how Troop 6 came to their home at the Church of the Annunciation 10 years ago.

"Father Andrew saved us. He saw we were in need and he stepped," Coclin said.

Father Andrew spoke highly of the Scouting program overall.

"Scouting is one of the best and most wholesome programs in society. so many great projects throughout the community. This is a magnanimous occasion," he said.

He offered a blessing to Scouts and the crowd for good health, service to the community and long life.

The Pledge of allegiance, scout oath and scout law, were led by Senior Patrol Leader - Kyle Evers and Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders - Aidan Paplauskas, Alex Sundberg and Matthew Varin.

Mayor Hopkins delivered a citation on behalf of the City, celebrating Troop 6's 100th anniversary and all the service they have given to Cranston and the state of Rhode Island.

Ward 5 Councilman, and proud Scout Father, Chris Paplauskas also presented a citation.

"You have all done a phenomenal job. You show leadership, you work hard on service projects and you work to make Cranston a better place," he said.

Coclin went on to talk about the Eagle Scout Court of Honor, which are fully developed celebrations recognizing Scouts who have attained Scouting’s highest rank.

"For the Court of Honor, there is someone who helped with the process to become an Eagle Scout. It is very important to recognize those who helped us get to where we are in life," he said.

He showed off a special pin that will be given out to all who help an Eagle Scout reach their goal.

Cranston West freshman, Aidan Paplauskas, who has already achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, speaks very highly of the program.

"Being a scout has meant the world to me. The points made and lessons learned to live by in the scout oath and law have molded me into the young man I am today.” he said.

During dinner, there was a slideshow of Troop 6 throughout the years. You could hear shouts from throughout the room saying "I remember that," or "look at that".

There were posters and acknowledgements of all the sponsors of the night. Including, BORI Graphics. Councilmen from Wards 4 and 5, Campopiano and Paplauskas, Ward 6 School Committee, Anthony Melillo, Falvey Linen, The Church of The Annunciation, Sugarfreemom.com, Coclin Associates, DiLanna Food Service, Above All Landscaping, Pepsi and Adrien Mercure Architect.

To celebrate 100 years is quite an accomplishment. And, it has not been lost on people.

"The troop 6 family stretches across generations and you really got to see that at the 100 year celebration with everyone coming back together to celebrate. And with that 100 year history comes countless community service hours and Eagle Scout projects that have left their positive mark on Cranston and our state. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for troop six as they continue to offer an incredible program for our city’s youth while always striving to give back. Cheers to troop six on a century of service," said Chris Paplauskas.
