The RIIL State Swimming State Championships were held last week at Brown University, and a handful of locals made a splash.

Here is a look at some of the results from the event:

BOYS

David Marcello took sixth place in the 100 breaststroke for Cranston West, while East’s relay team of Bradley Procaccini, Tyler Kahabev, Ivan Abreu and Aidan Carpenter placed seventh in the 200 free

Procaccini took eighth in the butterfly and broke the school record in the process, while East’s relay team of Alfred Su, Patrick Maguire, Carpenter and Procaccini took 10th in the 200 medley. GIRLS

Toll Gate’s Abby Ignagni took third in the 100 free

Toll Gate’s Oce Lowe placed fourth in the 500 free, while Ignagni also placed fourth in the 50 free.

Brooke Menard later took ninth in the 100 breaststroke, while Toll Gate’s team of Lowe, Ignagni, Menard and Lauren Francassa took 10th in the 400 free.

“The boys stayed together, worked hard, cheered for one another. There wasn’t a lot of pressure on them because they didn’t think going down the stretch that they were good enough to (win) the division meet. We just happened to (be our best) at the right time. Everything came together for us this season,” said East coach Bob Bouchard. “The girls had an awesome season considering the numbers they had. To be one point from that (division) title, it was awesome and did the best they could. They left everything on the table (at states).” Here is a look at some other local results from the meet:

The Bishop Hendricken swim team would swim to its 30th state championship is 31 years on Saturday afternoon at Brown University, topping second-place Barrington by 97 points.

The Hawks were led by junior CJ Sheldon, who took first place in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard free. Sheldon made history, breaking the state record in the 50 free.

“It was a big day. Last night, thoughts were coming and going but the one thing that really stood out to me was how much work we put in as a team. (Hendricken) Coach (Dave) Hanson told us that this is the hardest he’s ever had a team work. It’s like a breath of fresh air knowing that we accomplished our ultimate goal. It’s really motivational,” said Sheldon.

Sheldon was excited to etch his name in the Hendricken history books, joining some of the school’s best swimmers.

“As soon as I got in the water I felt good. I couldn’t ask for a better team around me. I remember as a freshman looking at all the banners with all the records in the pool, looking at Max (Miranda), who was one of the big figures in Hendricken swimming. I remember looking at his name at all those records and thinking, ‘hopefully I get there someday.’ Since then, I’ve just tried to work really hard and lead by example.”

Sheldon looks forward to his senior year, and hopes to expand his role as a leader on the team.

“I’m not sure where I’m going to go from here. As a senior, I hope I am elected to be a captain of the team. I hope I improve my times of course, but I would really like to provide the younger guys with guidance and for fill those leader ship goals,” said Sheldon. BOYS

Nick Andrews won the 200 free for the Hawks as well as the 500 free. Hendricken’s relay team of Aidan Blanchette, Nick Andrews, John Walden and Sheldon also won the 200 free.

John Walden, Ryan McPherson, Nick Andrews and Sheldon also won the 400 free relay.

Hendricken’s relay team of McPherson, Grant Dator, Tim Andrews and Blanchette took second in the 200 medley, while Blanchette later took second in the butterfly. John Walden placed third in the 200 free, while Hendricken’s Jon Smith took fourth in the butterfly
