East, West track off and running

By ALEX SPONSELLER The Cranston East and West outdoor track and field teams were in action at West last weekend and plenty of locals turned in strong performances on the day.

Here is a look at some of the results: BOYS

West’s Cole Khanjari finished first in the 800 meter while East’s Nick Cobb took first in the 1,500. Mike Conti later won the 100 dash for West.

West’s relay team of Kris Degaitas, Alex DelNigro, Manny Soler and Makai Teixeira won the 400. DelNigro later won the long jump while Degaitas won the triple jump. East’s Deem Quinn won the 800 run, while Ryan Fonseca won the hammer. West’s Steve Faccenda won the shot put.

Nate Quero finished second in the 800 while Matthew Baccari took second in the 1,500. East’s relay team of Adon Juarez, Angelo Desuze, Ben Harding and Sylus Phang took second in the 400. Degaitas also took second in the long jump. Soler finished second in the high jump. Shawn Robbins finished second in the 800 for West.

Faccenda later took second in the hammer, while teammate George Grammas took second in the shot put. Isaac Barbosa finished second in the javelin, while Faccenda took third in the discuss.

West’s Peter Morales finished third in the 800, followed by East’s Wyatt Harris who took third in the 1,500. West’s Matthew Santomassimo finished third in the shot put. Connor McDonough placed third in the javelin. Santomassimo also finished third in the discuss. GIRLS

Julianna Bucci won the shot put for the Falcons as well as the discuss. West’s Courtney Rice won the 800 meter.

West’s relay team of Mikaya Parente, Lindsey Hobin, Praise Mayson and Ailani Sutherland won the 400. Parente later won the long jump while Hobin won the high hurdles. Sutherland also won the 100 dash, while Hobin finished first in the high jump. East’s Bethanie Jean-Philippe won the javelin.

Hobin would later finish first in the 200, while West’s relay team of Quianna Pezza, Dea Xhupi, Juliana Andrus and Danielle DeSocio finished first in the 1,600.

West’s Ava West finished second in the hammer throw, while East’s Zoe Catrambone took second in the 800. East’s relay team of Catrambone, Mikaylah Johnson, Isabella Acevedo and Thamia Perez finished second in the 400. Pezza finished second in the 400 as well as the long jump.

East’s relay team of Madeline and Aislinn Baxter, Catrambone and Stella Loezos finished second in the 1,600. Maia Riccio finished second in the javelin.

Isabella Conti later placed second in the high hurdles for West, while Loezos finished second in the 1,500. Catrambone took home a second-place finish in the high jump. Sutherland would go on to take second in the 200.

Xhupi took third in the 400, while West’s Aliyah Gervais took third in the long jump and Maya Fraenza third in the high hurdles. East’s Aislinn Baxter took third in the 1,500, while Madeline Baxter finished third in the high jump.

Samantha Rosenfield finished third in the shot put for West, while Bucci took third in the hammer. West’s Maia Riccio finished third in the discuss, while East’s Loezos placed third in the 800. Chantel Celikbas finished third in the javelin.
