The Bishop Hendricken indoor track and field team claimed its 27th state championship in school history last Saturday in Providence, and its first since 2017. Many other local teams and athletes shined in Providence. Here is a look at some of the results

Locals compete at track states

The Bishop Hendricken indoor track and field team claimed its 27th state championship in school history last Saturday in Providence, and its first since 2017.

Many other local teams and athletes shined in Providence. Here is a look at some of the results from this weekend:

BOYS

Cranston West’s Alex DelNigro took seventh in the 55 dash while also taking 10th place in the long jump. Teammate Mike Tortolani later finished seventh in the 300 dash.

Jack McMahon won the 3,000 run while teammates Evan Reynolds and Aidan Tierney finished second and third, respectively. Luke Henseler took home fifth in the same event, while teammate Jonathan Iamarone finished 10th.

David DelBonis wrapped up a second-place finish for the Hawks in the 1,500 run, while teammates Matt St. Jean and Reynolds took fourth and fifth, respectively. McMahon also finished eighth in the event.

Duwaun Edwards finished second in the 55 hurdles for Hendricken, while Filaoye took fourth and Sean Fagan fifth. Ahnyia Phrasathane-Estac also took home seventh for Hendricken.

The Hendricken relay team of Matt Rene, Ian Hopkins, Nick Capalbo and Josiah Johnson finished second in the 3,200. Duwaun Edwards, Tom Comella, Russell White and Seun Filaoye wrapped up fifth in the 800 relay, while Toll Gate’s team of Dylan Barlow, Michael Murphy, Connor Marot and Josh Costello took eighth.

Filaoye would also finish second in the 55 hurdles, followed by Edwards in fourth, Fagan fifth and Phrasathane-Estac sixth.

St. Jean would later get the Hawks a fifth-place finish in the 1,000 run while DelBonis took fifth and Reynolds seventh.

The Hendricken relay tam of Michael Hanlon, Nick Capalbo, Fagan and Edwards later claimed third in the 1,600 relay.

Ryan Morel finished fifth in the weight throw, while teammate John Fay took 10th. White would later finish fifth in the 55 dash, followed by Comella at eighth.

Bishop Hendricken’s John Santos took home sixth in the high jump, while teammate David Shaw took eighth and Toll Gate’s Dylan Barlow ninth. White finished 6th in the 300 dash for Hendricken, while teammate David Valenti took ninth.

Hendricken’s Max Paolino finished sixth in the shot put, while teammate Cam Hughes took ninth.

Toll Gate’s Cole Baker finished seventh in the 600 run. GIRLS

Mikaya Parente finished eighth in the long jump for West. The relay team of Izzy Baffoni, Maddie Barbieri, Parente and Lindsey Hobin also took eighth in the 800 relay. Parente later took ninth in the 55 dash while Baffoni would also take 10th in the 55 hurdles.

The West relay team of Barbieri, Parente, Dea Xhupi and Sophie McElroy went on to finish eighth in the 1,600.

Pilgrim’s Ciannie Foster claimed fourth in the long jump as well as eighth in the 55 dash. Sakeena Khan, Sarah Lynch, Amelia Murphy and Alanna Coffie took sixth in the 1,600 relay for Pilgrim, while Toll Gate’s Voski Armenakyan took ninth in the weight throw.

Pilgrim’s team of Emmanuelle Degos, Sofia McCann, Jamee Salisbury and Ava McCann finished 10th in the 3,200 relay.
