Cranston voters backed all seven bond referenda by large margins in last week’s special election, following suit with the majority of Rhode Islanders.

Based on unofficial tallies from the Board of Elections, nearly 7,000 of the city’s more than 50,000 registered voters cast ballots by mail, early and in person or at the polls on March 2. Nearly three-quarters of voters participated by mail.

Question 1, which sought $107.3 million for projects at the state’s three public colleges, was approved by a 4,278-2,691 margin in Cranston (61.4 to 38.6 percent). Statewide, the question passed with nearly 60 percent of the vote.

Question 2, which sought $74 million for “green” projects at state parks and beaches, won the backing of Cranston voters on a 5,513-1,438 margin (79.3 percent to 20.7 percent). Statewide, it received the support of nearly 80 percent of voters

Question 3, which sought $65 million for affordable housing, passed in Cranston on a 4,734-2,202 margin (68.3 to 31.7 percent). That slightly outpaced the statewide margin of 66 to 34 percent.

Question 4, which sought $71.7 million for transportation infrastructure projects, passed by a 5,640-1,327 margin (81 to 19 percent) in Cranston, essentially matching the statewide results.

Question 5, which sought $15 million for early child care and education, received the support of 4,649 Cranston voters, with 2,285 opposed (67 to 33 percent). That, too, almost perfectly matches the statewide results.

Question 6, which sought $7 million for arts, economy and state preservation grants, won the backing of 4,390 Cranston voters (63 percent), with 2,576 (37 percent) opposed. Statewide, the question passed by a 60.7 to 39.3 percent margin.

Question 7, which sought $60 million for new industrial facilities investments at Quonset Business Park, received the backing of Cranston voters by a 4,077-2,867 margin (58.7 to 41.3 percent). That mirrors the statewide results.
